Angels Camp's City Council voted 5-0 on Aug. 18, 2026 for a temporary pause on building data centers in the city. City leaders said the city has no zoning rules for this new kind of land use, and the pause gives them time to write some. They pointed to the facilities' heavy electricity and water use and their round-the-clock noise and light. The pause ran 45 days. That first period would have ended around Oct. 2 unless the council extended it. No extension had been found as of Oct. 10.
