Camden County, Georgia became the first coastal Georgia county to enact a data center moratorium when its Board of Commissioners adopted a 6-month pause on May 6, 2026. The moratorium was triggered by a rezoning request to allow a data center near Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base (home to US submarine fleet). The rezoning request was later withdrawn after the Kings Bay submarine base commander made an unusual public appeal opposing the project. The 6-month moratorium gives the county time to develop permanent data center regulations. Camden County is in southeastern Georgia, bordering Florida near the Atlantic coast.
