Legal detail

City of Northfield (MN), Ordinance 1098, 'Approving Text Amendments Related to Use-Specific Standards for Data Processing Facilities in the Land Development Code' (Oct. 6, 2026 council agenda item 14, first reading). Per Southern Minn (Oct. 6, 2026), the council voted 7-0 to reduce the setback between data-processing facilities and existing or planned parks, trails or recreational features from 3,950 feet (set in a 2024 ordinance, which also requires a 200-foot residential setback, 17 performance standards and a conditional use permit triggered by any water use) to 200 feet; a separate unanimous motion directed staff to explore the planning commission's recommended tiered framework. The Planning Commission held the public hearing Aug. 20, 2026 (Legistar file 26-426) and had separately recommended an outright prohibition, which was outside the noticed hearing. NOT ESTABLISHED: second-reading date and effective date.
