El Cerrito's City Council voted 3-2 on May 5, 2026 not to renew the city's contract with Flock Safety for automated license plate reader cameras, after public concern about the security of data held in Flock's cloud and about sharing with federal agencies such as ICE. The cameras stopped collecting images when the agreement expired in early June 2026 and were scheduled for physical removal in late July to mid-August. No replacement plate-reader system was approved.

Who is protected: Drivers and residents in El Cerrito whose plate data would otherwise be collected and stored in Flock's cloud
